Townsville

On to Townsville today and the weather was stunning again with a top of 26 degrees.  We had a good trip and the kids were unbelievable.  Scarlett and Max happily coloured in and Zachie didn’t do much other than smile and babble.  We had a drive through the main street of Ayr which is an hour south of Townsville.  It reminded us of Griffith and we hope we get the chance to stop over on the way back.  Apparently a lot of choco’s live in the area, so we felt right at home. Townsville was bigger than we expected, being the largest town north of Brisbane.  We tried to get into a park near The Strand which is just near the city but no luck.  And so began a hunt for a caravan park.  Everything was booked out, even the crappy parks.  So we end up at the Big 4 on the outskirts of town that’s attached to a petrol station/truck stop.  That says it all.  Its supposedly 4 star and one look and we cancelled the third night. And to make matters worse the Defence Force were burning off on the hill behind our caravan park spewing some serious smoke and ash into the air.  Not happy Jan.  There was no point hanging around, so we headed into town for a drive through the foreshore, the strand and around the marina.  All great.  We love Townsville.  We had an ice-cream and took a good walk along the waterfront.  There’s lots of restaurants, pubs and cafes just waiting to be explored tomorrow.  On to get groceries and the day was done.
